Prerna Puri
Prerna Puri is a contemporary printmaker who treats her studio practice as a form of meditation. Specializing in traditional techniques like etching and aquatint, she uses a needle and pencil on metal plates to explore her ideas. Her deep connection to printmaking comes from its intricate, step-by-step process.
Her work is inspired by her inner spiritual energy, which she often expresses through the figure of Krishna. Her practice focuses on creating art as a quiet acknowledgment of the divine. She intentionally uses rich blues—a color representing vastness and wisdom—balanced with vibrant, earthy tones. By using the specialized à la poupée hand-inking method, she adds unique depth and texture to each piece.
Prerna views her work as a continuous experiment, blending time-honored printmaking traditions with new ideas to translate spiritual concepts into powerful prints.
